This blog post will talk about the Haj Tabet video. Hajj is one of the 5 pillars of Islam and a religious pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Hajj is a religious obligation that must be carried out at least once in a lifetime by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey, and can support their family during their absence. In 2017, more than 2 million people from around the world gathered in Mecca to perform this amazing ritual together. Many of them took the opportunity to film the Hajj events on their smartphones, using for instance Facebook Live or Periscope. As a result, many videos are spread in social media to show their friends what they see in Mecca. The video was recorded by an Indonesian pilgrim who goes by the name Choirulzz. It has been viewed more than 1 million times (and growing), including over 300,000 views on YouTube alone (and growing). The video is also notable for its title in Arabic language: "Haj Tabet", which translates in English as "I kissed the Black Stone! This is my Hajj". For a better understanding of the importance of the Haj Tabet, here is a short description, taken from Wikipedia: The Hajj is a series of rituals. During the course of this ritual, which lasts around five days, pilgrims make several stops. One of these stops is at Al-Safa and Al-Marwah where they perform seven circle around Al-Safa and four circle around Al-Marwah. The circles are performed in an anti-clockwise direction. Performing these circles is thought to be a symbolic imitation of running between the hills in a search for water. Both hills symbolize Saudi Arabia's two holy cities, Mecca and Medina. The event is also called the "Great Prostration" ( "Tawaf") or "Stoning of Satan" ( "Tat al-Mal"). The pilgrims spend days and sometimes weeks beforehand to perform the ritual. Pilgrims will perform 17 different types of ritual during this period. Some are voluntary, like sleeping on the ground or reciting prayers; while some are mandatory, like snuffing out a candle on offering up their prayers at prostration; some are symbolic; like kissing the hanging cloth of the Kaaba; and others are about physical elements of their travel, like offering water to fellow pilgrims. The Tawaf is performed in an anti-clockwise direction between the hills of Mounts Safa and Marwah ( "Mountains of Joy") in Meccan territory, while the stoning ritual is performed between Mounts Arafat and Muzdalifah ( "Mountains of Distress"). These hills were both used to denote Meccan geography. Even though it's not made clear in this video what exactly this means, it is still very symbolic considering the two cities are very important for Islam. The Hajj symbolizes the interconnectedness of all Muslims all around the world. cfa1e77820
