But these days the flicks are coming out of India in droves. This week saw the release of "X-Men Apocalypse" in both Hindi and English. The movie has already landed at No 1 on Bollywood's illustrious top 10 list, unseating last week's holder "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil". It opened with Rs 12 crore ($1.8 million) on its first day across India, beating expectations. The film has also been released in Tamil and other South-Indian languages. "X-Men Apocalypse" didn't open well in many other parts of the world either, due to piracy and the small Hindi and English speaking audience that it has. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic future, where humanity has been reduced to two warring factions: the human/mutant race and the evil mutants known as "The Four Horsemen", led by Apocalypse. The movie tells us how all this came about. The film has been directed by Bryan Singer, who has also directed the previous two "X-Men" movies. He is known for his use of special effects and big-name actors in action movies. A surprise was also that young star Olivia Munn, one of the showbiz's most interesting and stunningly beautiful actresses, had a small role as Psylocke, a French swordsman who can channel powers from the soul of any living person at will. Munn's portrayal is so good that we can truly believe her to be French and not American. Both she and Singer seem to have undergone a long and painstaking soul searching process before bringing out this movie. The timeless theme of redemption through love is very timeless indeed.
